The build

How it came together.

Older platforms are where tuning experience actually shows. Anyone can flash a modern ECU; far fewer shops can take a thirty-year-old Nissan and give it standalone engine management that genuinely works.

The owner came in wanting a Haltech Elite 1500. We recommended the Nexus S2 instead — newer, cheaper, and considerably more capable. Recommending the less expensive option is the right call when it is also the better one.

The engine went out for machine work, and measurement revealed that a previous machine shop had not done what it was supposed to. The hardware was wrong. Catching that before assembly is the difference between a running engine and paying for the same build twice.

This is the work that keeps older cars alive, and it is why the shop floor is always full of projects rather than quick flashes.

In the owner's words

Took my 240sx over to the crew and was greeted by Erin and Bajram. My SR20 needed a lot of love and the car needed some modern electronics. Erin advised me to get a Haltech ecu. I originally wanted an Elite 1500 but he insisted on a Nexus s2 since the Elite was outdated. The Nexus was also cheaper and has way more features! He sent my engine off to the machine shop after measuring some things and found the last machine shop didn't do what they were supposed to and all my hardware was wrong!... not many know how to work on older stuff like my 30 year old Nissan.
